The Roman Catholic parish church Schleedorf stands a little higher in the center of the village surrounded by a cemetery and a wall in the municipality of Schleedorf in the province of Salzburg . The parish church of St. Stephanus belongs to the deanery Köstendorf in the archdiocese of Salzburg . The church is a listed building .

history

Previous buildings were excavated in 1973, the first church was a wooden building from the 9th or 10th century, the second church was a high mediaeval stone building from the 13th century. In 1379 a parish was mentioned in a document. The Gothic choir was changed to Baroque style in the 17th century . After a fire (1872), a historicizing new building of the nave and tower was carried out between 1874 and 1876 with the architect Josef Wessicken . The church was consecrated in 1877 and made a parish church in 1891 . 1945/1946 was a renovation. In 1974 the interior of the church was redesigned with the architect Heinz Tesar .

The nave and the tower from 1874/1876 show themselves with unplastered conglomerate masonry with buttresses and arched windows and a south-facing tympanum portal . The three-storey tower to the west on the northern front has romanized, coupled sound windows and a pointed gable roof. The shingled western front with a gable and corner buttresses has a circular window. The retracted, Gothic core, choir with a triangle closure and a Gothic eave fillet has baroque arched windows. On the north side there is a two-storey sacristy extension , the ground floor is essentially Gothic.

The four-bay nave with groined vaults on strong, continuous belts . In the first yoke there is a mighty, sweeping and swinging gallery of modernity from 1973/1974 by Heinz Tesar standing on a central column . The triumphal arch has moved in. The one-bay choir with a former five-eighth closure has a pressed barrel vault and a floor with red marble slabs. The sacristy has a baroque groin vault and a studded sacristy door.

Furnishing

The main figure Martyrdom of Stephanus and the side figures Georg and Florian from 1699/1701 by the sculptor Meinrad Guggenbichler of the former altar are arranged in a modern grouping at the high altar with a free-standing cafeteria. The tabernacle is late Gothic. There is a crucifixion group with a crucifix, Mary and Johannes Evangelist and Sebastian, a seated figure of Leonhard on clouds, all from the workshop or followers of Meinrad Guggenbichler from the early 18th century. The triumphal crucifix is ​​from the 2nd half of the 18th century. The baroque statue of Mary and Child was created around 1960/1970.

The baptismal font with a polygonal baluster base made of marble shows the year 1642. The cross-path reliefs are from 1876. The vestry cupboard is from the 3rd quarter of the 17th century.

The group of figures Annunciation to Maria in the rectory from the workshop of Meinrad Guggenbichler from the beginning of the 18th century is in the Salzburg Cathedral Museum .
