Pfizer Research Award (Germany)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pfizer Research Prize (also Pfizer Prize ) was a science prize awarded in Germany from 2002 to 2009. From 1967 to 2001 the prize was awarded under the name Goedecke Research Prize (also Gödecke Prize ).

The award should not be confused with the research award of the same name awarded in Switzerland, see Pfizer Research Award (Switzerland) .

history

The Goedecke Research Prize was founded in 1966 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Goedecke pharmaceutical company (today Pfizer Group). The research award honored outstanding scientific work in the fields of biology , chemistry , pharmacy , forest science , geosciences , mathematics , medicine and physics . Both the nomination of candidates and the awarding of the prizes were carried out exclusively by an external jury according to technical and scientific criteria ; the donating company had no influence on the jury's decision. The Goedecke Research Prize was one of the highest endowed individual scientific prizes in Europe. It was traditionally made by the rector of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau during a ceremony in the so-called historic department store in Freiburg i. Br. Awarded.

With the merger of the Pfizer and Warner-Lambert groups in 2000, the research award was renamed the Pfizer Research Award for Young Scientists at the University of Freiburg from 2002 . It was endowed with 7,500 euros. The prize was awarded for the last time in 2009.

From 2005 to 2009 the German Pfizer Research Prize for Medicine, endowed with 8,000 euros, was also awarded by the University of Freiburg .
