Life

Private

Philip Simon studied German , history and philosophy at the North Rhine-Westphalian University of Essen . He lives in Cologne and on the Dutch North Sea island of Texel . He has been an Attac member since 2012 . In addition to Dutch citizenship, Simon now also has German citizenship .

Professional background

Simon gained his first stage experience during his studies and quickly became a fixture in the German variety scene as a conférencier in the vaudeville theater (including in houses such as Roncallis Apollo in Düsseldorf, the Wintergarten vaudeville in Berlin or the GOP vaudeville shows across Germany). In 2009 he ironically presented his first solo show with a farewell tour with a wink . In 2011 Simon presented his second cabaret solo show at the end of the closed season , for which he was awarded the jury prize of the Prix Pantheon and the audience prize of the Great Cabaret Festival of the Wühlmäuse (patron Dieter Hallervorden ). In addition, Simon wrote and produced his own satirical weekly review for the Berlin radio station 104.6 RTL from 2009 to 2011 . In 2012, Simon moderated over 40 episodes of the program Thekenquizzer on ZDFneo . From 2013 to 2014 he hosted the weekly late night show Nate Light with Philip Simon on ZDFneo, where he took over the broadcasting slot for neoParadise . Current topics and guests from politics (including Cem Özdemir , Matthias Machnig , Michael Spreng ) and culture (including Dietmar Wischmeyer , Jörg Thadeusz ) are presented in various forms. Philip Simon was programmed with his own cartoon character, his pixel alter ego Filipje. With the broadcast of October 23, 2014, the broadcast was discontinued. Until the summer of 2014, Philip Simon performed his cabaret with a Dutch accent, from now on with accent-free Standard German. As a justification, he states that the belittling stylistic device of the accent no longer suits his political cabaret, which he now only does. In the Meisenhorst program (since 2018) he deals with the Basic Law and welcomes his guests with:

“At some point I realized that I myself know more about the 10 commandments than about the Basic Law. And I'm an atheist. "
