Philipp August Friedrich Mühlenpfordt (born January 30, 1803 in Göttingen , † 1891 in Hanover ) was a German botanist and doctor. Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Muehlenpf. "; the abbreviation “ Mühlpf. " in use.

Life

Philipp August Friedrich Mühlenpfordt was born in his parents' house on January 30, 1803 in Göttingen. After attending grammar school there, he came to Braunschweig in 1819 to learn the art of pharmacy in the Hagenmarkt pharmacy that belonged to his uncle. As early as 1823 he went back to Göttingen to study medicine and natural sciences. He received his doctorate from the medical faculty there in 1826 and, after having passed the state examination at the Hanover Medical School, stayed as a general practitioner in Göttingen. Karl Karmarsch , the founder of the Royal Polytechnic School of Hanover, today's Leibniz University of Hanover , appointed Dr. Friedrich Mühlenpfordt as full professor for zoology and botany. Up to the age of 65 (1868) Mühlenpfordt taught at the Royal Polytechnic School in Hanover. In addition to teaching, Mühlenpfordt was a member of several natural history societies. Scientific works of zoological and botanical content can be found in various journals in these subjects. He was particularly fond of cacti . Here he worked as an expert and author of many new species.

Honor taxon

There have been several plants named after him: mammillaria muehlenpfordtii and today as synonyms applicable types : Coryphantha muehlenpfordtii (Syn by. Coryphantha robustispina and) Thelocactus setispinus var. Muehlenpfordtii (Syn by. Thelocactus setispinus ).
