Count Philip I of Schaumburg-Lippe

Count Philipp I zur Lippe-Alverdissen (* July 18, 1601 at Brake Castle near Lemgo ; † April 10, 1681 in Stadthagen ) and from 1647 Count zu Schaumburg-Lippe . He was the progenitor of the Schaumburg-Lippe family .

Life and domination

Philip I was the youngest son of Count Simon VI. von Lippe (1555–1613) and his second wife, Countess Elisabeth von Holstein-Schaumburg.

After the death of his father in 1613 he was given the offices of Lipperode and Alverdissen as apanage . In 1646 he inherited a part of the Grafschaft Schaumburg with the offices of Stadthagen , Bückeburg , Ahrensburg and Hagenburg from his sister, Countess Elisabeth von Holstein-Schaumburg (she was the mother of the last Count of Schaumburg, Otto V. ) .

On July 19, 1647, an extensive contract was concluded in Munster between him and Landgravine Amelia Elisabeth of Hesse-Kassel , according to which the whole county of Schaumburg was divided between him and Hesse, and his share was subordinated to the Hessian feudal association. This territory ran from now on in the name of Grafschaft Schaumburg-Lippe .

At his instigation, witch hunts took place in Arensburg .

Marriage and offspring

In 1644 he married Landgravine Sophie von Hessen-Kassel , daughter of Landgrave Moritz the Scholar of Hessen-Kassel and his wife Juliana von Nassau-Dillenburg in Stadthagen .
