Philippe Daniel Ledermann

Life

Philippe Daniel Ledermann was born in Geneva in 1944 and grew up with adoptive parents in Meiringen in the canton of Bern . They ran a chimney sweep business and a small farm. Ledermann attended primary school and, as a senior year, the Oberried school home near Belp. In 1960 he began an apprenticeship as a mechanic, but did not complete it. Instead, he graduated from high school in Thun and began studying dentistry at the University of Bern in 1964 . In 1974 he received his doctorate there with André Schroeder Dr. med. dent. This was followed by postgraduate training in oral surgery and implantology . In 1973 he opened his own practice in Herzogenbuchsee ; In 1992 he moved this to Bern. His main activity was implantology and oral surgery .

In 1964 he became a member of the striking student association Rhenania Bern . Philippe Daniel Ledermann is married and has one daughter. Together with his wife, he opened the Art Nouveau Hotel Belle Epoque in the old town of Bern in 1989 ; In 2011 they sold it. In 2007 they acquired the Hotel Sternen in Köniz .

Implantology

In 1977, Ledermann, in collaboration with the Straumann Institute in Waldenburg, developed the one-piece, self-tapping titanium plasma spray (TPS) -coated screw implant, which was further developed into the new Ledermann screw (NLS) made of titanium in 1988, and used it for immediate prosthetic restoration / immediate loading . Immediate loading of the edentulous lower jaw with the help of four inserted implants that are splinted with a bar. This invention made him known internationally. In 1985/86, in collaboration with the Robert Mathys company in Bettlach (today: Mathys AG ), he developed the two-part hydroxyapatite titanium implant (Ha-Ti implant), later called the Swiss Precision Implant (SPI).

Ledermann co-founded the International Team for Oral Implantology (ITI) in 1980 and the Swiss Society for Oral Implantology (SGI) in 1983. From 1983 to 1992 he was the first committee president of the SGI.

Since 1977 he has written over 100 publications in the fields of implantology , prosthetics and surgery , including the 1986 compendium of the TPS screw implant in the edentulous mandible .

Awards

  • 1994: Honorary member of the Swiss Society for Oral Implantology
  • 2009: Medal of Honor of the Federal Association of Dentists Working in Implantology in Europe (BDIZ) for special merits in implantology

writing

After leaving the dental practice in 2006, he resumed his fiction activity, which he had already devoted himself to as a teenager and later in his free time as an implantologist. His work includes short stories and poems as well as novels with a real background. His most important work to date, the autobiographical novel Die Papiereltern , depicts his multifaceted life. In the novel Doctors on the Astray he describes the consequences of a medicine for which the patient's belief in drugs is a lucrative business model, which repeatedly leads to cases of fraud with catastrophic effects.
