The Warsteiner Music Hall (until April 27, 2018: Phoenixhalle ) is a former industrial hall on the site of the former Phoenix-West steelworks in the Hörde district of Dortmund . The hall was first built in 1905 as a gas blower hall for the blast furnaces of the steelworks and is now used as a concert hall.

history

After its use as a blower hall, the building was rebuilt several times and served as a spare parts store until the blast furnaces were shut down. In 2003, the 2200 m² hall was renovated and then used as an exhibition and event hall. In autumn 2004 the media art prize of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the “ Nam June Paik Award ”, was presented in the Phoenixhalle. On May 20, 2005 the permanent exhibition "The New Dortmund" opened in the Phoenixhalle. The exhibition gave an insight into the structural change in the city of Dortmund.

From 2003 to 2010 the hall was a regular exhibition venue for media art exhibitions of the Hartware Medienkunstverein . Larger exhibitions were: "Scattered Moments of Concentration" (2005), "Vom Disappearance" (2005), "Shine & Globalization" (2006), "The Wonderful World of Irational" (2006), "History Will Repeat Itself" (2007 ), “They Call It Reality” (2007), “Waves” (2008) and “Anna Kournikova deleted by Memeright trusted System” (2008). In addition to the exhibitions, numerous events, film programs, artist talks and workshops took place in the hall.

Todays use

The company Four Artists converted the hall into an event hall by 2017. A techno club was set up in the basement of the hall, the Tresor.West operated by Dimitri Hegemann . Residents had sued against the building because they feared noise pollution from concerts and the arriving and departing visitors. This lawsuit has since been withdrawn.

The first concert in the hall took place on November 16, 2017. The Berlin band SDP played a sold out concert in the hall with 3600 visitors. The rapper Weekend played as the opening act and was thus the first act ever in the Phoenixhalle.

The Fantastischen Vier played the official opening concert on April 27, 2018; they are also co-operators of the hall. From this point on, the hall is officially called the Warsteiner Music Hall. So far, concerts by Mando Diao , Kontra K , Fritz Kalkbrenner , Milky Chance , Feine Sahne Fischfilet , Marteria and Wanda have taken place in the hall.
