The Piansee is a small natural lake in the natural area of the Neustrelitz Kleinseenland and in the Uckermärkische Seen nature park in the Oberhavel district ( Brandenburg ). It is located in the district of Himmelpfort , a district of the city of Fürstenberg / Havel .

Geographical location and hydrography

The Piansee belongs to a small group of lakes around the former Himmelpfort monastery; these include Stolpsee , Sidowsee , Moderfitzsee , Haussee and Piansee as well as the very small Moddersee . The Piansee is the northernmost of this small group of lakes and is located with its center about 6 km as the crow flies east of the core town of Fürstenberg / Havel. It has an area of approx. 35 ha and is max. 5 m deep.

history

The lake was first mentioned in documents in 1299 (as "stagnum Pyan"); it was part of the initial equipment of the Himmelpfort monastery . The monastery received the sole right of use from the Brandenburg margrave. The name is derived from an old Polish basic form * Pijan- zu * pijan- = drunk. According to Reinhard E. Fischer , the motive for this naming, such as shape or property, cannot be determined. Some Russian rivers bear this name because of their winding course. But this does not apply here.

Moderfitzsee, Piansee and Pian on the Urmes table sheet from 1825. Gl.H. = Glassworks

In 1819/21 a glassworks and workers' apartments ("Etablissement") were built between Piansee and Moderfitzsee . For 1860 12 residential and 20 farm buildings are named. The settlement was named Pian after the lake . Today it is a residential area of the city of Fürstenberg / Havel on the outskirts of the district of Himmelpfort .
