Pierre Louis Rouillard
Pierre Louis Rouillard , (born January 16, 1820 in Paris , † June 2, 1881 there ), was a French sculptor .
Life
Rouillard trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Jean-Pierre Cortot , and made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1837 with a lioness, and was followed by a long series of animal figures and groups in wax , plaster , bronze and silver . From 1840 until his death he taught at the École de Dessin .
However, he devoted his main activity to decorative sculpture . He provided work for the Louvre , the Paris Opera and numerous private buildings. He was particularly excellent as a lion trainer. In 1878 he created a colossal bronze horse ( Cheval à la herse ) for the fountain of the Palais du Trocadéro , which is now in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
Pierre Louis Rouillard was accepted into the Ordre des Palmes Académiques and the Legion of Honor .
