Pierre Duchesne

Pierre Duchesne (born February 27, 1940 in La Malbaie ) is a Canadian civil servant. From 2007 to 2015 he was Vice Governor of the Province of Québec . As such, he represented the head of state, Queen Elizabeth II , at the provincial level.

biography

After completing his law degree at the Université Laval in Québec , Duchesne worked as a notary in Sept-Îles from 1966 . From 1974 he worked in various functions for the National Assembly of Québec . From 1984 to December 2001 he was its general secretary, after which he worked for the provincial parliament as a special advisor until the end of 2003. He is editor of La Procédure parlementaire du Québec and author of Le Règlement annoté de l'Assemblée nationale , two important publications on the procedures of the National Assembly.

On May 18, 2007, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the impending appointment of Duchesne as the new Lieutenant Governor of Québec. The swearing-in by Governor General Michaëlle Jean took place on June 7, 2007. He held this representative office until September 24, 2015.
