Pierre-Évariste Leblanc

Sir Pierre-Évariste Leblanc , KCMG , QC (born August 10, 1853 in Saint-Martin , Québec , † October 18, 1918 in Sillery , Québec) was a Canadian politician . He was an intermittent member of the Québec National Assembly from 1882 to 1908 . From 1915 until his death he served as Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Québec.

biography

Leblanc studied law at Université de Laval and McGill University . In 1876 he was admitted as a lawyer and was then in Montreal in the office et Leblanc Brossard operates. In October 1882 he stood for the Parti conservateur du Québec for a by-election in Laval and entered the National Assembly of Québec . Half a year later the election was canceled because of corrupt machinations and Leblanc was defeated when it was repeated in June 1883. However, since the opposing candidate was also accused of corruption, this election had to be canceled as well.

In July 1884 Leblanc entered the provincial parliament again. In 1886 he was re-elected, but in April 1888 the election was canceled again because of election fraud. Nonetheless, Leblanc returned a month later and was successful. After the elections of 1892 he took over the office of speaker , which he held for five years. From 1905 Leblanc was party chairman until he lost his seat in parliament in 1908. Governor General Prince Arthur swore in him on February 12, 1915 as Lieutenant Governor of Québec. He held this representative office until his death.
