Narcisse Pérodeau (born March 26, 1851 in Saint-Ours , Québec , † November 18, 1932 in Montreal ) was a Canadian politician and legal scholar . From 1897 to 1924 and from 1929 until his death he was an appointed member of the Legislative Council of Québec . In between he served as lieutenant governor .

biography

Pérodeau studied law at McGill University in Montreal . He worked as a notary from 1876 and as a professor at the Université de Laval from 1898 . In addition, he was secretary of the Québec Chamber of Notaries from 1880 to 1912, then its president until 1915. He was also represented on the boards of numerous companies, including Montreal Light, Heat and Power .

Prime Minister Félix-Gabriel Marchand appointed Pérodeau a member of the Legislative Council, the unelected upper house of the provincial parliament, in 1897. There he represented the Sorel division and supported the Parti libéral du Québec . In 1910 he was a minister without portfolio in Lomer Gouin's cabinet . Louis-Alexandre Taschereau appointed him chairman of the government faction in the Legislative Council in 1920.

On January 10, 1924, Pérodeau was sworn in by Governor General Lord Byng as Lieutenant Governor of Québec. He held this representative office until January 10, 1929. He then returned to the Legislative Council and represented the Mortarville Division. He died in office three years later.
