Pierre Gassmann (politician)

Pierre Gassmann (born December 16, 1932 in Delémont ; † May 3, 2011 in Saignelégier ; resident in Charmoille ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

After graduating from high school , Gassmann attended the teachers' seminar in Porrentruy . From 1962 to 1967 he taught at the primary school in Berlincourt near Bassecourt , then until 1997 at the trade school in Delémont. He was politically active from 1952, initially as a member of the Young Socialists . In 1962 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern for the SP . In 1971 he was elected to the National Council . As a board member of the Rassemblement jurassien , Gassmann campaigned for the separation of the French-speaking areas of the canton of Bern and for the establishment of the canton of Jura . From 1976 to 1978 he was a member of the constitutional council that drafted the constitution of the new canton. In 1979, the year the canton was founded, he was no longer re-elected as a National Council, but was elected to the Council of States and represented the Canton of Jura until 1983.
