The peak (Yevgenia) Korschenewskaja ( Russian Пик Корженевской , Pik Korschenewskoi or Пик Евгении Корженевской , Pik Evgenii Korschenewskoi ) is the third highest mountain of the Tajik Pamir with 7,105 m . The mountain was discovered in 1910 by the Russian geographer Nikolai Leopoldowitsch Korschenewski and named after his wife and companion on expeditions, Evgenija Sergejewna Korschenewskaja (née Topornina).
location
The mountain is about 13 km north of Peak Ismoil Somoni ( Peak Communism ), the highest point of the Tajik Pamirs. It forms the north-western end of the chain of the Academy of Sciences that forms the highest part of the Pamirs. It lies over the Muksu River and to the west over the Fortambek Glacier .
Ascent history
In 1937 the Russian Danil Guschin reached a 6,910 m high pre-summit. The main summit was first conquered on August 22, 1953 by the Soviet climbers Alexei Ugarow , B. Dmitrijew, A. Goschew, A. Kowyrkow, L. Krasavin, E. Ryspajew, R. Selidschanow and P. Skorobogatow. They climbed over the north side from Fortambek glacier to Korschenewskaja glacier and from there over the north edge to the summit. The mountain is the second most frequented main peak in the Pamirs after Lenin Peak. The mountain has now been conquered from almost every direction. Most of these climbs were made by Russian mountaineers. Today's normal route comes from the south and reaches the summit ridge via the west side. The mountain was first climbed in 1986 in winter.
The mountain is one of the five seven-thousand-meter peaks on the territory of the former USSR . The Snow Leopard Order is given to the climbers who have conquered all five peaks.
