Building description

View into the top of the pilgrimage church

The church is built as a round church with a diameter of 50 m in the form of a tent and has around 1350 individually seated seats. The roof structure, supported by 32 beams made of glued laminated timber , tapers hyperbolic upwards and reaches a height of 23.5 m above the center. This form is supposed to symbolize that "God draws us to himself". At a height of 12.6 m there is a pressure ring with a diameter of 9.5 m. Above the pressure ring, large skylights are embedded in the shape of a ring, which provide natural lighting and symbolize Christ as the light of the world .

"From this earthly round the gaze is directed upwards: to the light, to the cross, to the top, to the infinite."

- Anton Alshut : Address by the architect at the topping-out ceremony

The entire support structure consists of 220 m³ spruce and fir glued wood with a weight of 110 tons.

The floor area is about 2000 m² and the floor is covered with Spanish granite Amarillo Fiorito . Siberian larch wood is located under the rows of seats. In the center there is a plaque that refers to the patronage of the Mater ter Admirabilis .

On the north side, in a circular segment of 90 °, there is the elongated chancel, which is raised by 5 steps and which is also covered with Spanish granite. The middle third of the white back wall of the altar is straight and has flanks angled slightly forward to the right and left. The sacristy is located between the altar and the outer wall .

There are confessionals and side chapels on the outer walls between the roof girders.

Furnishing

The tabernacle , the cross and the picture frame of the miraculous image were designed by the Chilean artist Fernandes.

The founder of the Schoenstatt Movement, Father Josef Kentenich, already celebrated Mass at the altar.
