Pilosocereus alensis is a species of plant in the genus Pilosocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet alensis means 'coming from the Sierra de Alo (W-Mexico)'.
description
Pilosocereus alensis grows tree-shaped with upright, firm shoots that branch from the base and are 12 centimeters in diameter and reach a height of 5 to 6 meters. There are 14 knuckled and finely notched ribs. The yellowish thorns turn reddish and eventually turn gray. There is a central spine. The 11 to 13 needle-shaped radial spines are up to 2 inches long. The lowest radial spike is bent and the longest.
The flowering part of the shoots forms lateral cephalias , which consist of dense, white hairs. The flowers are likely light purple in color.
Pilosocereus alensis is not well known.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Pilosocereus alensis is common in the Mexican states of Chihuahua , Durango , Guerrero , Jalisco , México , Michoacán , Nayarit , Sinaloa , Sonora and Zacatecas .
The first description as Pilocereus alensis by Frédéric Albert Constantin Weber was published in 1905. Ronald Stewart Byles and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed them in the genus Pilosocereus in 1957 . A synonym is Cephalocereus alensis (FACWeber) Britton & Rose .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
