The Piou is a small, largely natural mountain river in the Lozère department in the north of the French region of Occitania .
course
The Piou rises near the hamlet of Le Faltre in the municipality of Saint-Laurent-de-Muret at an altitude of 1321 meters. It then flows in a south-easterly direction and, after 16 kilometers, flows into the Colagne as a right tributary on the municipal boundary of Marvejols and Chirac .
Ecosystem
The Piou is not regulated by reservoirs and its banks are not fortified. There is not a single village right on the river; there are also no hiking trails along the river. Floods are frequent after the snowmelt in spring or after heavy rainfall ; due to its great difference in altitude, waterfalls form in some places . In its clear, not over-fertilized water, brown trout and crayfish cavort in many places .
