Pipedown was a hardcore punk band from Sacramento , California , USA .
Her left-wing political views were reflected in her song lyrics. Frequent topics were environmental problems, criticism of capitalism and criticism of society. In their booklets they also gave literature tips with which their listeners should educate themselves politically.
In the course of their band history, especially in North America, they became a fixture in the field of hardcore political punk.
history
Pipedown was founded in the summer of 1997 by Jason Omundsen ( guitar ), Josh White ( drums ) and James K. (guitar) in Grass Valley , California. While looking for a singer, they came across Ean Elliot, whom they accepted into the band. After two changes on bass, Pipedown made their first demo recordings.
In January 2001, they recorded their first album, Enemies of Progress, at the Art of Ears studio in San Francisco . The producer was Andy Ernst , who had already produced albums for bands such as AFI , Rancid , Green Day and Swingin 'Utters . The album was released in November 2001 and was followed by a US tour with Anti-Flag , Against All Authority , Thrice and Virus Nine .
In 2003 the second album Mental Weaponry was released . The band's first European tour followed in 2004 as the opening act for Anti-Flag . The first appearance of this tour took place in the Hamburg "factory".
At that time the band spoke of active preparations for a third album. However, this should never be recorded, because in July 2005 the band announced their breakup. As a final gift to their fans, many of whom have never seen Pipedown live, the band released a free live EP on their website . In addition, a final appearance in California was announced for August, but it never took place.
