development and construction

At the end of 1944, Piper announced a series of aircraft types that it would build after World War II . One of them was the PWA-6 Sky Sedan (Post War Airplane 6). In 1945, an unsuccessful based on Pipers was trainer aircraft PT-1 is a prototype built. The machine was a cantilevered low- wing aircraft with a conventional tail unit and a retractable tail wheel landing gear . The fuselage consisted of a fabric-covered metal frame with a four-seater cabin . Originally, the aircraft was to be powered by a Franklin O-335 with a rated output of 140  hp (103  kW ). In the end, however, a Continental E165 with 165 PS (121 kW) was installed. When the prototype made its maiden flight , the name had already been changed to PA-6. Construction of a second aircraft began in 1947 but was not completed. In contrast to the first prototype, it was an all-metal construction with a Continental E185 with 205 hp (151 kW) and a one-piece windshield . However, neither of the two patterns went into series production .
