The Louny Brewery ( Pivovar Louny ) was located in Louny , in the Ústecký region of northern Bohemia .

history

On June 20, 1890, the groundbreaking ceremony for the brewery took place . On November 3, 1892, Adolf Joseph Fürst Schwarzenberg opened the brewery as the first brewery in the monarchy with artificial cooling. In 1893 the "Na knížecí" restaurant in Prague-Smichov was assigned to the brewery. In 1894 Pilsner beer was completely displaced from the city of Louny. In 1896 the brewery reached first place among ten Schwarzenberg breweries. The competition in the Louny region consisted of breweries in Saaz , Mecholupy , Libočany , Brüx , Komotau , Leitmeritz , Panenský Týnec , Zlonice , Smečno , Roudnice , Bohusovice and Stebno .

In 1909 the brewery in Panenský Týnec took over and they set up the “Schwarzenberg Breweries Export Office”.

The beer was exported to Hamburg under the name "Fürstlich Pilsner Fürst Schwarzenberg Bräu". The place name of the brewery always had to be added to the trademark. In 1927 the competing brewery in Smecno was bought. In 1928 a new malt factory was built and in 1931 a cartel agreement was signed with the Royal Krušovice Brewery . In 1932 the brewery in Budyně nad Ohří was bought. The brewery was then closed and its rights were taken over.

In 1935 there were around 320 breweries producing in the Czech Republic . Prince Jan Nepomuk Schwarzenberg owned ten of them with a total output of 238,000  hectoliters , equivalent to 3.9 percent of all breweries. The brewery in Louny took 13th place in the country.

The 1991 output was 315,000 hectoliters. In 2002 the Czech beverage group Drinks Union took over the company, in 2008 the brewery was finally taken over by Heineken and closed at the end of 2010.

Agriculturally, the town and its surroundings (Okres Louny) are traditionally known for the cultivation of high quality hops.
