Placidus Franz Bliemetzrieder

Placidus Franz Bliemetzrieder OCist. (Born November 27, 1867 in Leoben ; † July 7, 1935 in Graz ) was an Austrian Catholic church historian .

Life

Bliemetzrieder passed his matriculation examination in Graz in 1886, joined the Rein monastery on August 20, 1886 and was ordained a priest on November 25, 1890 . From 1888 to 1891 he studied theology at the University of Graz and from 1895 to 1898 in Freiburg . In 1900 he was awarded a doctorate in Freiburg with the work A Canonical Treatise for the Pisan Council (1409) , which deals with a manuscript in the Rein Abbey Library. theol. PhD. In 1903 he completed his habilitation at the University of Graz, where he became a private lecturer in 1906 and an associate professor for church history in 1910 . In the same year he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1905 until his retirement in 1923 he was employed at the Graz University Library . From 1904 to 1907, in addition to his work in Graz, he lectured at the Institutum Theologicum in Heiligenkreuz Abbey . He was also the editor of the canon law department of the annual historical reports . From 1915 to 1917 Bliemetzrieder was a member of the Austrian Historical Institute in Rome .

From 1902 to 1911, Bliemetzrieder's research interest was in the Great Western Schism . He enriched this field of work with the publication of numerous original texts and scientific articles. In later years his research was mainly Ivo of Chartres , Anselm of Laon and Adelard of Bath . He published monographs on all three.
