Placidus Gervasius Nkalanga

Placidus Gervasius Nkalanga OSB (born June 19, 1919 in Ruti , Tanganyika , † December 18, 2015 in Songea ) was a Tanzanian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Bukoba .

Life

Placidus Nkalanga joined the Benedictine order and was ordained a priest on July 15, 1950 .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on April 18, 1961 appointed auxiliary bishop in Bukoba and titular bishop of Balbura . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on May 21 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Fulton John Sheen , Auxiliary Bishop in New York , and Edoardo Mason MCCJ , Vicar Apostolic of El Obeid . Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 6, 1969, to succeed Cardinal Laurean Rugambwa , who became Archbishop of Dar es Salaam , Bishop of Bukoba.
