During its service life, the ship had covered 675,000 nautical miles on 575 voyages with a total of 6,000 sea days. It was decommissioned on March 31, 2004 and laid up in Wilhelmshaven in the equipment port in front of the New Port Gate .
In 2006 the ship was sold to a buyer in St. Vincent and the Grenadines who wanted to convert it into a large yacht. In April 2007 it became the property of the Interest Group for the Preservation of Historic Vehicles. V. and was located on the Wiesbaden bridge in Wilhelmshaven, from where it was towed for scrapping in Aliağa in early August 2012 .
