The Plankenhorn (rarely also written Blankenhorn ) is a 2589 m slm high mountain in the Sarntal Alps . It is located in the Getrumkamm, a side ridge protruding westward from the eastern Sarntal main ridge into the Durnholz Valley . To the west and southwest of the Plankenhorn in front of the Reinswald ski area are the elevations Morgenrast ( 2353 m ), Sattele ( 2457 m ) and Plankenhörndl ( 2383 m ). The Getrumkamm extends towards the northeastGetrumspitze ( 2588 m ) away. Towards the south, the mountain structure slopes down to the Getrum valley , a short side branch of the Durnholz valley.
Administratively, the Plankenhorn is located in the municipality of Sarntal in South Tyrol ( Italy ). Only about three kilometers to the east - in the eastern Sarntal main ridge - there is a mountain of the same name, the slightly lower Plankenhorn at 2543 m .
Alpinism
The easy-to-reach Plankenhorn is made accessible by a marked hiking trail that enables you to cross the entire Getrumkamm. The easiest access is from the Reinswald ski area, where you can take a cable car to a height of 2150 m ; an ascent from the Getrum valley is also possible. Both paths meet at the south summit ( 2575 m ), which is connected to the main summit by a somewhat rocky ridge.
From the main summit, which has a high summit cross , you can follow the ridge path further northeast to the Getrumspitze. However, this passage has a few exposed areas that are secured by fixed ropes .
