Planomicrobium flavidum is a type of bacteria . The species is one of the firmicutes .
features
Appearance
The color of the colonies is light yellow. The cells are briefly rod-shaped or coccal-shaped (0.4-0.8 and 0.4-1.6 μm). Rods with lengths of 2.7 to 3.3 μm also occur in young cultures. Spores are not formed. The bacterium is motile by a polar flagellum .
Growth and metabolism
Planomicrobium flavidum is chemoorganotrophic . The species is strictly aerobic . Growth appears at temperatures between 4 and 37 ° C and at pH values of 6 - 8, the optimal pH value is between 7 and 8. The bacterium needs sodium chloride for growth and tolerates values of up to 13%.
The oxidase test and the catalase test are positive, the urease test negative. It hydrolyzes polysorbate 80 (Tween 80), casein is only weakly hydrolyzed. Starch , gelatine and esculin are not used. Nitrate is not reduced to nitrite .
Chemotaxonomic Features
The Gram staining is positive or variable. The GC content in the DNA is 45.9 mol percent. The predominantly present menaquinones are MK-7 and MK-8
Systematics
Planomicrobium flavidum belongs to the Planococcaceae family . The bacterium was first described by Yong-Taek Jung and co-workers in 2009 .
etymology
The generic name is made up of the Greek words planos ("wanderer") and micros ("small") and refers to the size (it is either cocci or short rods) and the property of the motility of these bacteria. The species name P. flavidum comes from the Latin word "flavidum" and refers to the bright yellow color of the bacterium.
