Bacillales form an order of gram-positive bacteria from the class of Bacilli . Many of these mostly rod-shaped bacteria are aerobic and cannot live in the absence of oxygen. An important characteristic of many representatives is the ability to form endospores under unfavorable conditions (e.g. lack of food or temperature) . The Bacillales was named after the genus Bacillus from the Bacillaceae family .

Systematics

The following families are assigned to the Bacillales order (as of July 11, 2018):

There are also genera (e.g. Exiguobacterium , Gemella or Solibacillus ) that have not yet been assigned to any of these families. Investigations of the 16S rRNA sequence showed a close relationship, so that these species were placed in the order Bacillales.
