Platja de Son Real (southeastern section also Platja des Dolç ) is a sandy beach on the north coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located in the northeast of the municipality of Santa Margalida on the Badia d'Alcúdia ("Bay of Alcúdia"), between the places Son Serra de Marina and Can Picafort .

The Platja de Son Real is about 500 meters northwest of Son Serra de Marina, a holiday resort with only one and two-story houses on the south side of the Badia d'Alcúdia . The beach is part of the approximately 1,100 hectare Dunes de Son Real nature reserve (type ANEI - Àrea natural d'especial interès).
Together with the beaches of S'Arenal d'en Casat and Platja de Na Patana further to the northwest as well as the rocky sections in between, it forms the coastline of the Son Real landscape , a formerly associated estate between the torrents Torrent de Son Real and Torrent de Son Bauló . On the coastal plain of the Son Real estate , dunes formed , which are held in place by pines , juniper bushes and heather and placed under protection over a length of five kilometers and a width of two kilometers.
The eastern border of the area is formed by the Torrent de Son Real , which flows into the sea on the 300-meter-long and 250-meter-wide beach of light sand named after him, only when there is heavy rainfall. For most of the year there is a brackish lake behind Platja de Son Real . This stretches, surrounded by pine forest , about one kilometer into the interior of the island, to the local buildings of Hort de Son Serra . On the east bank of the torrent begins the area of Son Serra , which is also named after one of the former large estates of Mallorca and extends east to the Torrent de na Borges .
The border location of the beach between Son Real and Son Serra has repeatedly led to different names. The south-eastern side, belonging to Son Serra, is also known under the name Platja des Dolç , after the es Dolç rock formation on the coast in the east . Even the Torrent de Son Real is recorded as Torrent de Son Serra on an old map of the Son Real estate that is displayed in the town hall of Santa Margalida . Following the recent uniform naming of the Son Real area for the torrent that flows into the Platja de Son Real , the corresponding beach designation seems to be gaining ground according to the name of the Torrent de Son Real .
Access
The natural coastal hiking trail runs over the Platja de Son Real from Son Serra de Marina to Son Bauló, a district of Can Picafort. The next point that can be reached by vehicle is the western part of Son Serra de Marina near the local marina . From there, Son Real's beach can be reached on foot in around 500 meters to the northwest. Son Serra de Marina can be reached on the MA-12 road between Artà and Alcúdia .
