Playa Verde is a town in the Oruro department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Playa Verde is the sixth largest town in the canton of Villa Esperanza in the municipality of Salinas de Garcí Mendoza in the province of Ladislao Cabrera . The village is located at an altitude of 3730  m on the left, western bank of the Río Tajlla Kkollu , which flows one kilometer downstream into the Río Aroma .

Playa Verde is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east.

The climate is arid , the annual precipitation is only 200 mm (see climate diagram Salinas de Garcí Mendoza), with a pronounced dry season from April to November with only sporadic precipitation; only in the summer from December to March there is significant rainfall between 20 and 70 mm per month. The mean average temperature of the region is around 4.5 ° C and fluctuates only slightly between 0 ° C in July and 7 ° C in January.

Transport network

Playa Verde is located at a distance of 203 kilometers by road southwest of the departmental capital Oruro .

From Oruro, the Ruta 1 highway runs for 116 kilometers in a southerly direction through the cities of Machacamarca and Poopó to Challapata . In Challapata, the Ruta 30 branches off to the southwest and after 30 kilometers leads via Santiago de Huari to the Río Laca Jahuira . Immediately after crossing the river bed, the largely unpaved road Camino 603 branches off in a westerly direction, which leads via Santuario de Quillacas and Bengal Vinto to Playa Verde and on via Villa Esperanza Quinsuyo to Salinas de Garcí Mendoza .

In Playa Verde, a dirt road branches off Camino 603 in a northerly direction, leading to Aroma , the central location of the neighboring Canton of Aroma .
