History of origin

Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Max Lilja and Antero Manninen met at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and decided to play songs from their favorite band Metallica on the classical musical instrument cello . As an exam at the academy, they selected four pieces. Kari Hynninen, head of a small record company in Finland, was at one of their concerts and wanted to sign the band. Due to a lack of funds, Apocalyptica could only use the studio in the early morning and late evening hours. The record company Mercury Records , with which Metallica were also under contract, showed interest in the band and ensured a worldwide distribution of the debut album. All songs are originally from the band Metallica. The album sold 350,000 copies worldwide and attracted the interest of the metal scene.
