The Pleißenbach has its source in the municipality of Callenberg on the Langenberger Höhe . It rises in a wooded area south of the Callenberg district of Meinsdorf and north of the federal highway 4 and the city of Hohenstein-Ernstthal .
In the direction of flow to the northeast, the Pleißenbach first passes the districts of Pleißa and Kellers of the city of Limbach-Oberfrohna . After the Chemnitz district Röhrsdorf has been passed, the Pleißenbach continues to flow in the vicinity of the Chemnitz motorway junction towards the south parallel to the federal motorway 72 . It borders on the corridors of Chemnitz-Rabenstein and Chemnitz-Rottluff . Now the Pleißenbach runs again in an easterly direction through the Chemnitz districts of Rottluff and Altendorf .
In Chemnitz-Schloßchemnitz, the Pleißenbach feeds the Schlossteich before flowing into the Chemnitz east of the water.
