Pocona is a town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Pocona is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Pocona in the province of Carrasco . The village is located at an altitude of 2721  m on the right bank of the Río Pocona Mayu , which drains in a south-easterly direction to the Río Mizque .

Pocona is located in one of the high valleys of the Cordillera Oriental mountain range , which merges eastward into the Bolivian lowlands. The region's climate is characterized by a typical daytime climate in which the temperature differences between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.

The annual average temperature is 14 ° C, the monthly values ​​fluctuate between 11 ° C in June / July and 16 ° C in November / December (see Totora climate diagram). The annual precipitation is 600 mm and falls mainly in the summer months from December to February with monthly values ​​of 100 to 125 mm; This contrasts with a dry season from May to October with monthly precipitation of less than 30 mm.

Pocona is located at a distance of 110 kilometers by road southeast of Cochabamba , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Cochabamba the paved highway Ruta 7 leads via Tolata and Paracaya to Epizana and on via Pojo , Comarapa and La Angostura to the lowland metropolis of Santa Cruz . Ten kilometers north-west of Epizana, a dirt road branches off in a south-westerly direction and after twenty kilometers reaches Pocona .
