Poggio Berni is a fraction and municipal seat of the Italian municipality ( comune ) Poggio Torriana in the province of Rimini , Emilia-Romagna region .
geography
The place is about 16 km west-southwest of Rimini on the orographic left bank of the Marecchia not far from the border with the province of Forlì-Cesena .
history
The original Latin name Podium Hibernorum means winter plateau . Later the place belonged as a fief to the Malatesta , who built the castle in 1335. Poggio Berni was an independent municipality until 2013 and merged with the neighboring municipality of Torriana to form the new municipality of Poggio Torriana on January 1, 2014 . The districts of Camerano, Sant'Andrea, Santo Marino and Trebbio also belonged to the municipality. Neighboring communities were Borghi (FC), Santarcangelo di Romagna , Torriana and Verucchio .
