history
The Due Torri castle above the village was first mentioned in a document in 1141 and is closely linked to the names of the Malatesta family. Until 1938 the place was called Scorticata. Torriana was an independent municipality until 2013 and merged with the neighboring municipality of Poggio Berni on January 1, 2014 to form the new municipality of Poggio Torriana. The districts of Bruciatini, Colombare, Franzolini, Gemmiano and Montebello also belonged to the municipality. Neighboring communities were Borghi (FC), Novafeltria , Poggio Berni, San Leo , Sogliano al Rubicone (FC) and Verucchio . In the east, the Marecchia delimited the municipality.
In the former district of Montebello there are still large remains from Roman times from the 3rd century AD.
