action

In order to pay off his gambling debts, Lucas agrees to the cardsharp George Benson, who had fraudulently won against him, to arrange a transport with banknote paper to him and which is actually intended for Masters, who controls the illegal gambling activities in the city. In Chamaco, however, the last stop before the finish line, Lucas replaces the papers with gaming chips intended for the Bensons saloon. There, however, Benson and Lucas are victims of an attack by Masters. One of his subordinates is a former painter who got on the wrong track and now works as a forger; his daughter Lola, employed as a saloon girl, falls in love with Lucas. During the following night, a fight between Masters and Benson / Lucas eases; At first the two seem to be able to eliminate the gangsters, but then Masters has the upper hand - until the Mexican Lazar, undiscovered witness of the events, can bring everything to a good end.

criticism

The film triggered very different reactions from the critics. From “exciting” ( lexicon of international film ) to “mediocre” (Ulrich P. Bruckner) to total dismantling by JM Sabatier, who found that the film “in the absence of a deeper secret only offers any story of the simplest knitting pattern, not one Can arouse interest. With the exception of the always excellent Incontrera, the acting performances cannot save the film from being forgotten ”. Christian Keßler sums up: The director would remain “true to his rule not to do anything that somehow falls out of the healthy mediocrity”. The Protestant film observer drew the following conclusion: “In terms of the story, it could have been an interesting film, but the director missed the chance to make an above-average western. Only moderately exciting and entertaining. "

Remarks

The film grossed almost 145 million lire in Italy, which was rather below average .
