The Polder Detern-über-lowland is a relief polder in the Lower Saxony municipality of Apen in the district of Ammerland and the municipality of Detern in the joint municipality of Jümme in the district of Leer .

Aper Tief with Polder Detern over-lowlands

The approximately 200  hectare polder is located in the Leda-Jümmeniederung around 0.5 to 0.75 meters above sea level . It was created from 1999 to 2002 by the Leda-Jümme Association for flood protection . It lies south of the Aper Tief and east of the Jümme . The “ Vreschen-Bokel am Aper Tief ” nature reserve connects to the east .

The polder has around 3.2 million m³ of storage space. He is a 1999/2000 built pumping station operated at low Aper, which also has an A - features and outlet structure. The pumps in the pumping station have a drainage capacity of 1.2 m³ / s. Filling and emptying the polder takes between 8 and 13 days. The total costs of the construction measure amounted to around DM 12 million.

The areas of the polder lie in an extensive marshland . They are characterized by grassland on moist to wet locations. The grassland, which is used for agriculture, is criss-crossed by numerous ditches and several sluices, which lead to an approximately 1000 meter long, 20 to 30 meter wide and 1.2 to 3.5 meter deep receiving water that ends at the pumping station at Aper Tief , drain.

Trees can be found along the sluice and the paths that run through the polder. The French way, which runs on the dike in the west of the polder, is lined with trees.

In the east of the polder there is still water , which is surrounded by fallow land . Further fallow land is located on the parcel east of the Ossenflethschloot and in parts along the sluice.

The meadow area is a valuable habitat for waders and meadow birds such as black-tailed godwit and lapwing . Brood populations of the ruff could still be detected here until the 1990s .

Parts of the overflow in the polder are used for fishing.
