Polkageist is a band from Berlin that combines Balkan music styles with ska and punk rock to create their own polka sound. The band sings the wide range of their own songs, mainly in German, powerfully with several voices. The band was founded in 2010 and describes itself as the danceable reunification of Berlin.
The five musicians understand the name of the band as their credo: dance, drink, sweat - with vodka and 2/4 time , which is also the title of their first album.
history
In February 2010 they were looking for a band for a flat share party in Berlin-Neukölln. That was the hour of birth of Polkageist.
Since then, Polkageist has helped shape Berlin's musical life with spontaneous street and underground concerts, at neighborhood festivals and in clubs.
Polkageist became known throughout Germany through his numerous tours beyond Berlin:

- Polkabeats Festival in Cottbus (2012)
- Edelweiss Pirate Festival in Cologne (2013)
In October 2013 the song Ick liebe dir was included in the sampler The Favorite Songs of German Taxi Drivers (GMO) published by Russendisko .
In the winter of 2013, Polkageist, together with the Cabuwazi children's circus, delighted his youngest audience on the stage of the Berlin Wintergarten Varieté in the sold out Christmas show Cinnamon & Magic - Puss in Boots .
This commitment was reissued in winter 2016/17, this time with the Snow Queen.
Another milestone was the production of the new album FCK PLK 2014/2015, which was supported by the successful crowdfunding via Startnext . The final was the release concert at SO36 in Berlin (support: Liedfett ).

The appearance of Polkageist and other bands on the Jolly Roger stage for the port birthday in Hamburg in 2016 became the subject of a parliamentary dispute in the Hamburg citizenship . The AFD demanded in a small request, to prevent the appearance of musical bands that are allocated to the "left-wing extremist" spectrum at the upcoming Hafengeburtstag. The Senate saw no reason for this.
In the crime scene "Der Fall Holdt" (first broadcast on November 5, 2017), Commissioner Lindholm dances at a club party to the song Immer auf der Kippe by Polkageist.
