Toxicological data
As far as possible and customary, SI units are used. Unless otherwise noted, the data given apply to standard conditions .

Polypropylene glycols ( PPG ) are liquid polyglycols with a high viscosity . The associated monomer is propylene glycol , nowadays mostly called 1,2-propanediol .

The short-chain representatives of this group of substances are dipropylene glycol , tripropylene glycol and tetrapropylene glycol .

Presentation and extraction

The polypropylene glycols are produced by a ring-opening polymerization of propylene oxide . It can also be synthesized by polycondensation of 1,2-propanediol .

properties

The flash point is 150-225 ° C .

use

Polypropylene glycols are used in non-ionic detergents and cleaning agents , synthetic resins , antifreeze agents and flotation agents . Polypropylene glycols are also used as anti-foam agents , plasticizers and lubricants . They serve u. a. for the production of polyurethanes , e.g. B. in two-component adhesives, where they can be mixed with the polyol component (resin component). A wide range of emulsifiers with the designation "PPG -..." are produced from them by etherification with fatty alcohols or esterification with fatty acids .
