Poppo I. von Blankenburg (* around 1095 , † 1161 or 1164 ) probably descended from the Reginbodonen and was Count von Regenstein - Blankenburg in the Harz Mountains.

His uncle is the Bishop of Halberstadt Reinhard von Blankenburg , who probably paved his first steps.

As a liege-bearer of Duke Lothar of Supplinburg in the Harzgau, he exercised the rights of the count and was later to be proven as a liege-man of Henry the Lion . Since 1128 he was called as Comes . His county, which was probably created by Lothar von Supplinburg, who was related by marriage, was in the eastern Harzgau between Ilse and Bode . Lothar was also related by marriage to Burchard I. von Loccum .

He married Richenza von Boyneburg , the daughter of Count Siegfried III. from Boyneburg .

In 1163, as brother-in-law of Count Siegfried IV of Boyneburg , who died in 1144, he asserted certain claims to the Northeim Abbey before Heinrich the Lion, which his wife Richenza could not deny his recognition.

With his sons Siegfried and Konrad, two lines were created. It was not until the middle of the 14th century that the lines of the line that emerged from Poppo reunited.
