The metro station Porte d'Auteuil is a station on the Line 10 of the Paris Métro .

location

The station is located in the Quartier d' Auteuil in the 16th arrondissement of Paris . It is located in a west-east direction under the Place de la Porte d'Auteuil.

Surname

The Porte d'Auteuil was a city gate in the Thiers fortification wall , construction of which began in 1841 and which was razed from 1919 . The eponymous former village of Auteuil was incorporated into Paris in 1860.

history

The station was put into operation on September 30, 1913 with the opening of the western extension of line 8 from the Beaugrenelle station (since 1947: Charles Michels ).

On July 27, 1937, the section of line 8 between La Motte-Picquet - Grenelle and Porte d'Auteuil was assigned to line 10. On October 3, 1980, the line was extended to Boulogne - Jean Jaurès , so the station largely lost its function as a terminus. Initially every second train went on to Boulogne , currently only a few trains start or end - early in the morning and at rush hour - in Porte d'Auteuil and use the tracks in the direction of Michel-Ange - Molitor as an intermediate loop.

description

Initially, the 75 m long terminus station was in the six-station, counterclockwise end loop west of the Seine . It has the unusual arrangement of three tracks on two central platforms, with the central track being accessible from both sides. The regular trains stop at the northern track in the direction of today's terminus Boulogne - Pont de Saint-Cloud . Originally it was created to connect line 9 with the Porte Molitor station , which was never opened and is only used as a parking station. The southern track is used to park trains. Each of these tracks leads into its own tunnel at the western end of the station, as the Petite Ceinture bridge bases were located in this area . The directions Boulogne, Porte Molitor and Michel-Ange - Molitor (next station in the former end loop) can be reached from each of these tracks. In the past, the signal box was located above the middle track in a cabin, which also served as train handling.

Since the trains from Boulogne-Billancourt run over the southern section of the former end loop to Michel-Ange - Molitor, the Porte d'Auteuil station will continue to only run in an east-west direction.

The entrances are designed differently in the style of Art Nouveau and Art Deco . In 1913, the station was one of the last to receive an Art Nouveau entrance designed by Hector Guimard .

vehicles

Until the mid-1970s, Sprague-Thomson trains were in use, which were replaced by the MA series from 1975 . In June 1994 it was replaced by the MF 67 series , which was still in use on the line in 2014.
