Post is the county capital and seat of the county seat of Garza County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located in northwest Texas on the Santa Fe Railroad , at the intersection of US Highways 84 and 380 in the center of the county, is about 160 km to the west from New Mexico and has a total area of 9.8 km², of which 0, 1 km² of water are.
history
The place was founded as Post City in 1907 by Charles William Post , a breakfast cereal maker .

According to the 2000 census, 3,708 people in 1,243 households and 873 families lived here. The population density was 381.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 51.54% White, 5.47% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 18.69% other ethnic groups. About 2.91% were of mixed race and 42.64% were Hispanics or Latinos.
Of the 1,243 households, 34.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 53.5% of them were married couples living together. 13.0% were single mothers and 29.7% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were single households and there were people living in 13.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.17.
27.5% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.8% 18 to 24, 29.4% 25 to 44, 20.0% 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 114.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 115.8 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 25,034 , and the median income for a family is $ 29,135. Males had a median income of $ 26,318 versus $ 17,266 for females. The per capita income was $ 11,113. 27.8% of the population and 23.0% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 34.2% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 25.9% were 65 or older.
