history
In November 1927, the still young Potsdam section decided to build a hut, in June 1931 the first groundbreaking took place and in July 1932 the hut was inaugurated. The introduction of the 1000-mark block by the Hitler government, however, set the hut back in its further development. Frequent changes of the hut keepers did not allow continuous growth until 1961. Only then did the hut develop into a popular hiking destination.
After the war, all German Alpine Club huts on Austrian soil were confiscated by the Allied troops and transferred to the possession of the Austrian state . The Soviets dissolved all sections in their zones of occupation , which also included Potsdam, and confiscated their property. When the German huts were returned to the DAV , the French occupying power, in whose zone the Potsdamer Hütte was located, initially blocked the return of the huts from sections of the Soviet occupation zone.
In the afternoon of March 4, 2017 sparked Föhnsturm a chimney fire , the false ceiling in fire continued. About 20 people were brought unharmed into the valley by the mountain rescue team. For this reason, the hut was closed in the summer of 2017. The renovation of the hut including the construction of a small hydropower plant began in May 2018; the hut has been open again since July 14, 2018.
Today the hut is owned by the Dinkelsbühl section .
