Prescott is a city and county seat in Nevada County in the US state of Arkansas . In 2010, around 3,300 people lived in the city.

Prescott is part of the Ark-La-Tex socio-economic region that arose between the states of Arkansas, Louisiana , Oklahoma and Texas .

history

The city was founded in 1873 during the establishment of the Cairo & Fulton Railroad and incorporated into the county on October 6, 1874. Originally the city consisted of 48 blocks, half of which were on both sides of the railway line. Starting from the course of the route, the streets were built in a grid pattern along it.

The city grew quite quickly as rail transport ensured reliable transport of local goods to larger markets. The first post office opened in November 1873, and two years later, The Banner, the first local newspaper was founded. Due to the increasing importance of the city, the county seat was moved here in 1877 . In the late 1890s, Prescott had its own telephone system and water supply.

In Prescott, as in many other American cities built along railroad tracks, the lumber industry had a major impact on development. In 1890 the Ozan Tumber Company plantation was founded, which quickly developed into a regional economic engine. In the same year another railway line was built, which was also used to transport local goods.
