Presto is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

location

Presto is the central place of the Municipio Presto in the province of Jaime Zudáñez and is located at an altitude of 2465  m . The village is located at the confluence of the Río San José de Toca in the Río Presto , which in turn flows 37 km further downstream into the Río Grande . The north-south running mountain ridges around Presto reach heights of up to over 3200 m.

Presto is located in the southern part of the Cordillera Central mountain range in the transition area to the Bolivian lowlands. The region has a typical daytime climate in which the temperature fluctuations during the day are greater than the average temperature fluctuations over the year.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 18 ° C (see climate diagram Icla), it is mild 15 ° C in June and July and reaches around 20 ° C from October to March. The annual precipitation is almost 600 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to August with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 100 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.

Presto is located 101 kilometers by road northeast of Sucre , the capital of Bolivia and the department.

From Sucre to the east, the 976 kilometers long national road Ruta 6 , which connects Sucre with the Bolivian lowlands, reaches the city of Tarabuco after 67 kilometers. From Tarabuco a country road then leads in a northerly direction to the town of Presto and from there on to Pasopaya , the central place of the canton Pasopaya in the northern part of the municipality.

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Presto 99.2 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
