The class G 1 of the Prussian State Railways was a two-axle freight locomotive . The original design comes from the Prussian Eastern Railway . This required a tender locomotive for the long branch lines through sparsely populated areas , as the tank locomotives could only carry small supplies. A total of 44 locomotives of this type were built for the Prussian Ostbahn in 1878 and 1879.

After the establishment of the Prussian State Railways , further demand for locomotives of this type was determined. Therefore, between 1887 and 1898, another 49 locomotives of this type were procured, which in 1905 received the designation G 1 . The changes compared to the previous delivery series were not very extensive.

The Deutsche Reichsbahn did not include any of these locomotives in their redesignation plan; the last were retired in the early 1920s .

The machines were a Tender equipped to type 2 T. 8
