description

Vegetative characteristics

Primula kwangtungensis is a perennial herbaceous plant . All leaves are in a basal rosette. The 0.5 to 3 centimeter long petiole has dense rust-colored hairs. The paper-like thin leaf blade has a broad , obovate to elongated or elliptical shape with a length of 5 to 11.5 centimeters and a width of 3 to 7.5 centimeters. While the underside of the blade is covered with rust-colored, multicellular hair along the leaf veins, the top of the blade is downy hairy along the central leaf vein when it is young, but soon becomes bald. The long lashed spreading edge is dentate almost all the way to the far. The base of the spreader is wedge-shaped to rounded, the tip of the spreader rounded.

Generative characteristics

The stem , covered with rust-colored hair, determines the height of the plant with its length of 3 to 12 centimeters. At its tip there are one or two overlapping umbels , which consist of three to nine flowers . The more or less hairy bracts are lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate and 4 to 5 millimeters long. The rust-colored hairy stalk is 1 to 1.5 millimeters long. The downy, hairy or almost bald calyx is 6 to 7 millimeters in size, bell-shaped and divided into a third with triangular and pointed calyx tips. The color of the crown varies from pink to purple-blue. The corolla tube is 1.1 to 1.3 centimeters long, the coronet has a diameter of about 1.5 centimeters. The corolla lobes are 6 to 8 millimeters long, obovate and deeply edged . The flowers have different styles . In the flowers with a long stylus, the stamens reach to the center of the corolla tube. The stylus are about as long as the tube. In the case of flowers with a short style, it is exactly the other way around. The ellipsoidal capsules are slightly shorter than the calyx.

The flowering period extends from February to March.

Occurrence

Primula kwangtungensis occurs in China in the north of the Guangdong province (Lechang Xian, Ruyuan Xian) at an altitude of about 200 meters. The species grows on damp rocks in forests.
