The Prins Richard is a combined RoRo and rail ferry from Scandlines Danmark , which has been in service on the Vogelfluglinie since 1997 .

history

The all-new double-ended ferry was established in March 1996 with the Ørskov Christensen Staalskibsværft A / S in Frederikshavn commissioned and ran on 20 December 1996 from the stack . On May 7, 1997, the Prins Richard was christened in Frederikshavn and handed over to Scandlines A / S on May 22, 1997.

On June 6, 1997, the Prins Richard was put into service and began its regular service between the ferry station Puttgarden and Rødby Færge . The journey time is 45 minutes in both directions, because the double-ended ferry no longer has to perform the usual turning maneuvers.

On June 19, 2001, the Prins Richard collided with the east mole when entering the ferry port in Puttgarden. One person was slightly injured; Considerable damage to property occurred on the ship and the pier.

From March 31 to April 16, 2008, while the Prins Richard was docked at Blohm + Voss , flow plates were installed in the propeller area to reduce fuel consumption.

Sister ship

The Prinsesse Benedigte is the sister ship of the Prins Richard . The two ships are named after the prince couple Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Benedigte von Denmark , who married on February 3, 1968.

The newbuildings of Scandlines Deutschland GmbH, which were also put into service in 1997, the Germany and Schleswig-Holstein have almost the same main parameters, but have differences in the design and the layout of the passenger area.

Environmentally friendly technologies

In the period 2013–2014, environmentally friendly technologies were installed on all four Vogelfluglinie ferries ( Prins Richard, Prinsesse Benedektiven, Germany and Schleswig-Holstein ). A new hybrid drive combines a combustion engine and an electric drive, with excess energy being stored in batteries. According to the shipping company, up to 15 percent of CO 2 emissions can be saved in this way . In addition, gas scrubbers were installed for exhaust gas cleaning .
