The private advanced high school Iserlohn (formerly the boarding school on the Seilersee) was founded in 1968. The school was originally located in Herdringen Castle in North Rhine-Westphalia . Because the number of pupils and with it the number of teachers and supervisors grew steadily, the boarding school community moved to the facility on the Seilersee in Iserlohn in 1999 . Both the school and boarding rooms are located on a total area of ​​7500 square meters. In 2017 the private Aufbaugymnasium Iserlohn moved again on campus and moved into completely redesigned premises.

The boarding school at Seilersee offers girls and boys from the seventh grade a school career leading to a high school diploma . In 2019, around 150 students, who are taught by 21 specialist teachers, will attend the grammar school. English, biology, history, mathematics and German are offered as permanent advanced courses. The students choose their basic courses from the subjects German, history, geography, religion, English, French, physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, art, music, sports, social sciences and Spanish.

Individual support is offered in support courses such as a "spelling workshop" or German as a foreign language, as well as in the individual learning times. A separate multi-purpose hall on the campus is used for inline hockey , basketball , indoor soccer, volleyball and badminton . Are also offered soccer , hockey and tennis and weight training , mountain biking , skiing , taekwondo and fencing . Several riding arenas and fitness studios in the immediate vicinity as well as a swimming pool complete the sports offer of the boarding school.

In their free time, the students can engage in creative and manual activities. In working groups (AG), the students meet for billiards , cooking, photography and singing. There is also a school café, a school medical service and a "Song of Style" AG.

Nine supervisors, secretarial and household staff as well as the caretaker make up the staff. Up to 80 boarding school students live in the single or double rooms on the campus . The children and adolescents not only eat their meals together, the boarding school students also largely organize their homework and free time together. A structured daily routine in the boarding school ensures time for learning, for leisure and leisure.

The special orientation of the boarding school on the Seilersee enables the change from a secondary , comprehensive or secondary school to a grammar school up to the 7th grade. At the Aufbaugymnasium , the grammar school education does not begin until the seventh school year. A change from an undergraduate high school to the advanced high school is possible at any time. At the boarding school on the Seilersee, the North Rhine-Westphalian central high school diploma can be taken and thus the university entrance qualification can be acquired. In addition to English, a second foreign language (Latin or French) is taught from grade 7. As a third language, students from the eleventh grade can also take French or Spanish if they wish.

21 teachers and 9 supervisors work at the boarding school. Karl-Heinz Marx, teacher of Latin and English, has been running the school since the beginning of the 2013/2014 school year.

Cooperations

The private advanced high school Iserlohn is the only ice hockey boarding school in Germany, where school and boarding school are united under one roof. Schoolchildren are trained in cooperation with the DEL ice hockey club Iserlohn Roosters . The young talents who train in the club's school and youth teams are particularly encouraged. The youngsters made it to the German Junior League (DNL) in the 2008 season .

The boarding school community also cooperates on a social and academic level with local institutions. Together with the BIZ (career information center) in Iserlohn, internships are organized for ninth and eleventh graders. In addition, there are many collaborations within the ESO network, such as B. with the International School of Management in Dortmund, or the Euro-Akademie Dortmund.

Sponsorship and management

Dietrich Walther has been the sole owner of the boarding school at Seilersee since December 2010 . The Iserlohn private secondary school has been sponsored by the ESO Education Group since January 1, 2018 , after Dietrich Walther died unexpectedly at the end of 2016. Jürgen Röske was the head of the boarding school at Seilersee from 1999 to February 2014. After taking over the position of the head of the foundation at Landheim Schondorf (Ammersee), the boarding school director is Susanne Hartken-Rohe and the school director Karl-Heinz Marx. The managing directors are Özgür Gökce and Iris Herrmann.
