The Southern Luo He ( Chinese 南洛 河 , Pinyin Nán Luò Hé ) is a tributary of the Yellow River .
It rises on the southeast flank of the Hua Shan in the Chinese province of Shaanxi and flows eastward into the province of Henan , where it flows into the Yellow River near Zhengzhou .
Over its total length of 420 km it flows through Lushi , Yiyang , "the great old capital" Luoyang , and Yanshi .
The largest tributary is the Yi He, which flows into the Luo He at Yanshi.
Significant archaeological finds in the area of Southern Luo He show that the region was of great cultural importance even in the early history of China .
