The Bistrica e Prizrenit ( Albanian  also  Lumbardh i Prizrenit , Serbian Призренска Бистрица Prizrenska Bistrica ) is an approximately 34 kilometers long left tributary of the White Drin in southern Kosovo . Colloquially it is often just called Bistrica .

The Bistrica in winter

It rises east of the city of Prizren in the immediate vicinity of the Prevalla road pass and initially runs through a deeply cut valley in a westerly direction. Its gorge separates the Oshlak ridge in the north from the Šar Planina in the south. From the village of Gornjasella , the Prizren- Kaçanik trunk road runs along the river.

Behind the village of Reçan and shortly before Prizren, the valley narrows and becomes a narrow gorge, the approximately 500 meters deep Gryka e Lumbardhit të Prizrenit . Here is the Serbian Orthodox Archangel Monastery , which is surrounded by the Bistrica and which was destroyed in the riots in March 2004 . At the entrance to Prizren, the river emerges from the gorge into the Prizrensko polje plain , and then - set in stone - flows through the immediate city center.

Behind Prizren, the Bistrica crosses the agriculturally used Polje and finally flows into the White Drin, which has already been dammed up here by the Albanian Fierza dam , near the town of Muradem .
