Problems on the running belt is a documentary film by the DEFA studio for documentaries by Karlheinz Mund from 1989 .

action

Filming begins in November 1987 at the IFA engine plant in Nordhausen . In post-production is started, to facilitate the flow production with the nest assembly to connect to the work and productivity to increase. For this purpose, a conveyor belt was ordered in Japan, which was built and delivered according to the ideas of the Nordhauser engineers. In theory, a motor should now be able to leave the line every three minutes, but that is not the case. It is important to find new methods of work organization . In the meetings, the dissatisfaction of the workers is shown, their difficulties and objections, discussions with engineers and management, the common endeavor to find possible solutions. All of this does not run smoothly, as opinions collide and attitudes become clear. But everyone is positive about the proposed changes.

After a year the film people come back to the company with the camera, ask about what has been achieved and what has not yet been achieved, the viewer can see sections of the development of a collective. Much has been achieved in the meantime and new problems have to be overcome. The workers look more relaxed because they are getting closer to the goal. They speak plain language, say uncomfortable things, and do not mince words. It is a pleasure to listen and watch. Nobody wants to have the extra shifts on Saturday, but if there are reasons, everyone is there again because the chosen path is the right one.

production

Problems on the running belt was shot by the artistic working group: document as black and white film and partly on ORWO color under the working title Nest Production. The first demonstrable performance, apart from the presentation during the Dresden Documentary Film Show in April 1989, took place on October 19, 1989 in the series Offers at the Babylon cinema in Berlin . The dramaturgy was in the hands of Jochen Wisotzki .

criticism

Klaus M. Fiedler said in the Neue Zeit that the text is partially overloaded with brittle matter, which should have been avoided. Anyone who hears behind the words of those involved will find out enough. Because what is shown in the film is reality, is the unvarnished look into our everyday life.
